Royal Adelaide #2 Patric Kroschel in action during his 7&5 victory Metropolitan Pennant – Simpson Cup Round 6 summary The penultimate round of Simpson Cup provided some amazing results, with three teams Kooyonga, The Grange and Glenelg vying for the Final and four teams Flagstaff Hill, Mt Lofty, Royal Adelaide and Tea Tree Gully, still a chance to be relegated with one round to play. Facing wintery conditions at Royal Adelaide, Glenelg handled the extremities superbly dishing out a 5.5 – 1.5 defeat of Tea Tree Gully. The Glenelg squad stepped up to the plate with three players, Anthony Olsen, David Hiern and Lachlan Booth winning convincingly along with close victories to Josh Hayes and Matt McGowan. At number 5 Matt Overall squared his match with Matthew McMahon while The Gullies sole victory came courtesy of Chris Austin 3&2 over Campbell Rawson. Kooyonga remain top of the Simpson Cup ladder after another comprehensive victory, 6 – 1 over Mt Lofty. After being challenged by Glenelg in round 4, the Kooyonga team has been ruthless the past two weeks and are starting to peak at the business end of the season. For Kooyonga, number four player Daniel Speirs has notched up his sixth win for the season defeating Phil Roberts 3&2, while number six Zak Fuller is undefeated from his five matches, after accounting for David Henshaw 7&6. The best for Mt Lofty was Ty Turnbull who pushed Kooyonga number one Charles Shaw all the way to go down on the 18th. In the big stakes game between Royal Adelaide and Flagstaff Hill, the home side controlled the match for most of the day, eventually wining 4 – 3 to move out of the dreaded bottom position. The loss sees Flagstaff Hill now at the foot of the ladder. Royal Adelaide won two early matches, Billy Cawthorne over Brad Manton 6&5 and Jamie Norcock 3&2 over Shane Cotton, before Mark Hopf secured a win for Flaggies, defeating Nathan Baulderstone 4&3. Royal then stretched its lead to 4 – 2 with wins to Lawson and Kroschel, before Scott Ready hit back for Flagstaff Hill by defeating Louis Fuller 1up. The Grange proceeded to get the job done in its match with Highercombe winning 5 – 2. Williams, Lisk, Du Plooy, Webb and Crowder were all winners while for Highercombe, Adam Husdell defeated Nick Cheary 3&2 and Ben Hallam won over state Captain Chris Brown 3&2. A fascinating final round of matches awaits. If favorites Glenelg, defeat Highercombe and Kooyonga defeat The Grange, it will be a Glenelg v Kooyonga Simpson Cup final. If Grange manages to win or even square its match they will finish above Glenelg and face off against Kooyonga for the Cup, twice in as many weeks. Kooyonga can only miss the final is they lose heavily 7 – 0 and Glenelg wins convincingly 7 – 0. In the relegation zone, if Tea Tree Gully defeats Flagstaff Hill, Flaggies will be relegated to A2. If Flagstaff Hill win they are safe, win 6 – 1 or better, Tea Tree Gully could possibly be relegated on holes, if the match between Royal Adelaide and Mt Lofty is squared. Royal Adelaide and Mt Lofty will come to play, as the winner of the match will survive, while the loser will be waiting on the TTG and Flaggies result to know its fate. If the match is squared and Flagstaff Hill win, Mt Lofty will be relegated due to an inferior games total. Playing at number three, Zhou was impressive accounting for Rachel Fry 4&3. Other comfortable winners for Glenelg were Josie Hodge 6&5 over Jodie Deacon and Elysia Yap 6&4 over Vivian Chu. At number one Jenny Lee proved too strong for former State Champion Ebony Heard, in for her first game since the 2011 Final, when she defeated current Ladies European Tour player Sarah King at number one.
