The winners of the 2013 Vardon and Jean Derrin Trophies have been announced with likely winners coming out on top in both competitions. 2013 VARDON TROPHY The Vardon Trophy came down to the wire with Jordan Zunic (Bonnie Doon) coming out on top with an exceptional average of 69.30 per round over 33 rounds, edging out his nearest competitor, Callan O Reilly (Pennant Hills) by only 0.33 of a shot. Even fifth place in the Vardon averages was within a shot, which displays the number of quality players NSW has in Men’samateur golf at the moment. There were a number of solid rounds posted by Zunic during the season but the most notable ones would have to be his rounds of 69-67-73 at the 2013 NSW Medal to give him a tied third finish, his seven-under 64 at the Pennant Hills Cup, but the greatest display for the season would have to be his win at the Tasmanian Open where he won the event by two shots posting rounds of 70-69-67-65. This gave Zunic a -13 total for the four rounds and the 2013 title. Zunic would have been one of the hot favourites at the beginning of the season due to the great skill and experience he has displayed in Vardon events over a number of years. To see the full Vardon results: FULL 2013 VARDON TROPHY RESULTS 2013 JEAN DERRIN TROPHY The Jean Derrin Trophy was won this year by an extremely talented golfer in Shelly Shin (Concord). Shelly had an average for the 2012/2013 Jean Derrin season of 71.62 over 13 rounds which is one of the best scores seen in the Jean Derrin Trophy in a number of years. Shelly has had a number of highlights this year but in the Jean Derrin Trophy the highlights of her rounds would have to be her three-under par round of 71 at the 2013 Avondale Bowl and her six-under par round of 68 at the 2013 Rose Bay Cup. Shelly came out on top at both of these events and was extremely dominant throughout the season also taking out the Ryde-Parramatta Cup in July. Coming in second was Lauren Hibbert, with an average of 74.20, who has recently made the decision to make the move to a professional career in golf. The recently held NSW Medal and 72-Hole Championship will have a large bearing on the coming season with four rounds occurring which could get a player off to a quick start towards winning the 2014 Vardon or Jean Derrin Trophy.
