Shelly Shin from Concord Golf Club has been named as one of three players added to the National Squad. Golf Australia made the announcement today that Shelly, along with Western Australia&aposs Curtis Luck and Victoria&aposs Zach Murray, was added as a junior member of their Squad. Golf NSW High Performance Manager and Coach Dean Kinney commented, “After a fantastic summer for Shelly, which included a fifteen shot win in the Riversdale Cup and selection to represent Australia in the Queen Sirikit Cup, Golf Australia chose Shelly to be in their national Junior Squad.” He added, “This will give her many more opportunities with international and national tournaments and access to the best coaches and service providers in Australia.” Shelly was very excited about the announcement revealing, “This has been a goal of mine for a while now…I just tried to keep working hard and let those things just happen.” Happen it did!…Shelly has had an extraordinary year. She made the quarter finals in the Australian Amateurs held in Adelaide in January. She finished best of the Aussie-based amateurs, only one shot away from leading amateur China s Jing Yan, in the ISPS Handa NZ Women’s Open held at Christchurch from 31 January to 2nd February. Shelly recently played in the Bing Lee Fujitsu General Women’s NSW Open at Oatlands Golf Club, and finished best of the NSW s amateurs at T17 (-6). She won a number of first place finishes in the JNJG Junior Masters series, as well as won the JNJG Srixon International, and was named the JNJG&aposs 2013 Junior Girl of the Year. Coach Kinney said, “She has a very mature attitude and high golf IQ for a fifteen year old – possibly the best I have witnessed. And her work ethic is second to none!! I look forward to overseeing her progression.”
