Round 1 of the Sorrento Senior Amateur kicked off today as 100 players teed it up in very pleasant conditions for golf.
It was a day that provided many highlights, most notably the hole-in-one from Brian Spalding of Kooringal GC on the 5th hole. In less compelling fashion, Peter Bence (Peninsula-Kingswood GC) managed to roll his buggy into a bunker on the 15th hole. After he had recovered all his golf clubs, it was only moments later his day was made worse when he watched his buggy roll into the nearby lake.

Ian McCleary (Kooringal GC) holds the overnight lead by 3 shots after recording a highly impressive even-par 70. Chasing his tail are Greg Welsh (Colac GC) and Robert Wallace (Midlands GC) who both finished with 73.
McCleary also finds himself sitting atop the nett leaderboard after a nett 67 from a daily handicap of 3. He shares the lead with Andy Buxton of Royal Melbourne who played from a daily handicap of 12.
The 2017 Men’s Senior Order of Merit trophies will be presented tonight at the tournament dinner before round 2 commences tomorrow morning at 8:30am.
