The Sportscover Victorian Junior Masters rolled into round 2 today as players looked to attack the course and scramble up the leaderboards. With players trying to craft a score that will keep them in sight of the leaders, round 2 is always a day to keep persisting no matter what.
With a guaranteed spot now confirmed for the leading girl into the $1.3 million Oates Victorian Open, it would be certain the entire girls field will be well aware of their position as they teed off in round 2. As overnight leader and front runner for that exemption Yuka Saso (Philippines) looked to widen the margin, things didn’t exactly go to plan early on. Even with a birdie on her very first hole Yuka slipped a little with bogeys on holes 3, 5 & 6. That minor slip didn’t seem to trouble her concentration as she bounced straight back with birdies on holes 11 & 12 and finishing with a round of 75 (+2). With fine performances from a number of the chasing group including round of the tournament from Anne Fernandez 70 (-3), and also Maddison Hinson-Tolchard 72 (-1), tomorrows round definitely proving to be pivotal in taking home this year's trophy.
Overnight leader James Walker held nerve through his opening nine holes today as he continued to hold top spot in the overall boys section, however Ryan Stitt (joint overnight leader) would probably like another go at his front nine. Stitt birdied two of his first three holes taking a mini lead very early, unfortunately that didn’t last long as he continued to bogey 5 of his next 6 holes. This left Walker out in front after nine holes with everyone chasing. The round 2 chase was led by Tyler Duncan (QLD) and Jackson Kalz (SA) after carding second round scores of 71 (-1) and 72 (Even par) respectively. With round 3 continuing tomorrow Walker now holds the lead by two after signing for a round 2 score of 72 (Even par).
