Round one of the Victorian Junior Masters got underway today at the pristine Spring Valley Golf Club in Melbourne’s South East.
After 23 successful years at Waverley Golf Club, the Victorian Junior Masters moved to Spring Valley Golf Club for the first time. The event is contested over 72 holes stroke play.
A cloudy start to the day provided good scoring opportunities for the morning field with Harrison Weaver (Medway GC) shooting a one under par 70 off a handicap of five. Weaver’s nett 65 is leading the overall category.
The afternoon field took to the fairways under blue skies with the best of the best battling it out. The highlight of the day was a hole-in-one on the par-3 10th hole from Cranbourne’s Tom Ryan. Tom’s first shot of the day was a perfectly struck 50-degree wedge that found the cup. He followed with three bogeys in the next four holes but fought back well thanks to his accurate driving to sign for a 3-under 68.
In the girl’s field Min A Yoon, the recently crowned Junior Vic Open and Port Phillip amateur champion carded a 5-under 69. Yoon’s round included only one bogey on the par-four 4th hole.
