Avondale’s Jye Pickin has strengthened his lead after round two of the Avondale Amateur following back-to-back 66s.

Pickin, the current club champion, leads the men’s 64 strong field by three shots to Kingston Heath’s Andrea Lautee after an impressive five-under-par round featuring seven birdies.

“There’s a certain expectation on your shoulders to play well,” Pickin said post-round.

“It’s sort of a weird feeling to see all of these guys I’ve been playing with over the past month at your home club.”

Defending Champion Blake Windred is lurking five strokes back, alongside fellow NSW State member Jordan Garner and Queensland’s Lewis Hoath.

Round of the day belonged to another Avondale local William Bayliss, who almost aced the 2nd hole on his way to a six-under-par 65.

In the women’s field, overnight co-leader Hye Park continued to impress after a two-under-par 70 which featured an eagle on the par-5 14th.

Park, a member of Royal Pines, leads by a single shot over 16-year-old South Korean Kumkang Park.

New Zealander Caryn Khoo is a further two shots back, after the low round of the day with a 68.

The cut was set at five-over for the men and nine-over for the women’s field.
