The Brisbane Golf Club is driving change with the announcement of gender-neutral playing opportunities.
Starting next month, the Queensland club will extend access to tee times across the week to all members with relevant playing rights.
This move mirrors one of the key measures for all clubs to adopt to manage legal risk around compliance with the 1984 Federal Sex Discrimination Act.
This recommendation is contained in the Australian Human Rights Commission publication released earlier this month titled ‘Guidelines for the promotion of equal opportunity for women and girls in golf.’ Read the publication here.
The guidelines provide guidance for clubs to ensure memberships are gender neutral, provide open access to the course at all times for both genders, maximise female participation and facilitate the inclusion of women in governance arrangements.
